Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day! It is a day to remember all of our soldiers, veterans and our fallen soldiers. We need to take the time to give thanks for them who have fought for our freedom. Usually, I spend it with my family but have a lot to do back at our place! However, I have a lot to do before I start working again on Tuesday! So, what are you up to today!?

The drive back last night was fun! It was a two hour drive but it was a good one. I had a storm brewing to the left of me and then sunny to the right. My daughter and I laughed and danced to music and sang at the top of our lungs until she FINALLY fell asleep. She was pretty tired!

So,  I have been wanting to start my own web page and I do know that it is possible to purchase your blog for your web site. Does anyone have any helpful links on what I need to do to get a host/domain name? Where is it affordable? Or any that you are most happy with? I would appreciate any and all advice I am able to get!  I’ve been wanting to build my own web site for a really long time but I am not always sure what to look for?

I am also in the process of putting together a list of blogs that I enjoy reading and that are full of helpful tutorials and such. So, that should be coming soon.

Yesterday, I worked on that set of corn toss boards from like 10 am until 5:30 pm before I called it quits. I did not even get real far other than most of the background painted and ready for the foreground images. Time just flies when I am making art. I forget to eat. I just get lost in that creative process. It is so therapeutic for me. With all I have gone through these last five years; it has most definitely been the most beneficial and productive for me.  I love it!

*do laundry
*clean & organize Halle’s room
*get things together for rummage
*take out the trash
*clean & organize my room
*make a permanent home for my fabric
*spend time with Halle
*clean bathroom

Oh goodness, the list probably will go on and on! I just need to clean our apartment from start to finish! Things never fully got organized or put away since I moved in to these apartments at the most intense time in school. I need to gather things for the rummage too in a couple of weeks!

I told my friend Christina I will have to have her help with some organizing techniques. She is a organized artist. I have a terrible time being organized and staying on top of things. I hope I can find someone to help teach me some organizational skills!

I found a very helpful link for Minnesota artists! I am not sure if it includes some of the surrounding states or not but I will put that up here!! http://www.springboardforthearts.org/ I have posted this on my facebook for my fellow friend artists and would like to share with the rest! I hope you find it of some help!  It is such a resourceful site! If anyone finds anything that is very helpful, please send this way! I have been wanting to write a grant through the Region 2 Arts Council but I always miss the deadlines. I will probably have to head down to the Bemidji Community Center for the Arts and sign up on their mailing list in person. Just so I get it right away and can work on writing a grant! I would like to write one for a press bed for lithography possibly or a studio space of some sort or even a surger sewing machine and more designer fabric!  Oh, I am such an addict for art!

Well, I have kind of been rambling this morning and I really need to start my day for now! I hope to post later tonight and if not tonight by Wednesday! After I have finished the set of baggo boards! I work Tuesday night and have an appointment during the day! Then sew, sew, sew the rest of the week and I still have to write an artist bio for Christina!

Now, I just need to make myself some coffee and get to work.

So, I will close for now! I hope everyone has an amazing Memorial Day weekend and thank you for all of the soldiers, veterans, and fallen soldiers for making my freedom possible.

Speaking of Memorial Day. I want to just share something about one of my good friends. He is very inspiring! Please take the time to check him out! http://www.philcosfreedomteam.net/ He runs in honor of his best friend who didn’t come back home after his Iraq tour. He runs carrying the flag! His story is very inspiring and I encourage you to take the time to check it out!

Sunday Funday!

I have had a lot I wanted to blog about this past week. I will have to start carrying a notebook just for ideas and thoughts I have that I would like to blog about! I finished up my last week of May term classes!! They were fun and I think the even more awesome part of it is the friends I took away with it! I have made some great friends here in Bemidji! All whom are very talented, quirky, fun and kind hearted!

It was a pretty stressful week with trying to finish up Bookmaking because I had to do an artist book. Which the classes were so intense that I felt a creative block. I did a book on artist trading cards that I made. They were my first round of artist trading cards and were pretty fun to do! I even tried using my sewing machine and that was real neat. However, I did finally pull that off  the night before. Sometimes I have to feel the anxiety and pressure of the deadline before I can actually get myself moving on the project.

I got up early on Friday to finish up some of my wallets to bring in to the local artisan store, Bad Cat Creations! Wow, I love that shop. It is full of so many artistic things by many talented artists! The shop owner Christina Thorne is awesome! I am really glad to have met another artist that is so passionate about what they do and actually have a great heart. I really look forward to working with her and seeing her around. She even has a little website that has a list of all the artists that have a place for their things at her shop. Mine is not up yet because I have to send her some photos and my artist bio. I am extremely excited. I signed a 12 month contract and hope that she will continue to enjoy my small sewn creations.  Her website is http://www.badcatcreations.com .

I have an order for a corn toss board set to complete! It has been a while since I have done a set of these boards. Almost a year now. When things start feeling more like a dreaded job it is easier to put things away for a while so you can still enjoy doing these things at a later time. However, I am ready to get back on the wagon and start creating! 😀 I am all sorts of excited for lots of art this summer!! I will possibly be having a show in July at the Red Rose Theater in Bemidji, MN.

I got to go fishing yesterday and caught one baby walleye AND a very tender sunburn! But I enjoy being on the boat so much in the summer. My grandpa Jack used to be a commercial fisherman and used to take us kids out all the time. I still remember the one day I went fishing with him and he wanted me to drive his boat. He said, “Pick a cloud and drive towards it. But stay away from the reef.” Oh, grandpa…. I think I was only 12 or so and I had no idea what the reef was. He kept hollering at me. “Your going toward the reef, your going toward the reef Shanna.” Well, I picked the cloud and drove towards it. I didn’t go fishing for a while after that. I got too frustrated. I really wish I could’ve went more. I really miss my Grandpa Jack and think of him EVERYTIME I am out on that boat fishing. If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t of gotten to go much as a child and wouldn’t have such a great appreciation for it!

I will close for now because mom made home made pancakes! MMMmmmmMMMMMmmmmm!!! They are so delicious and I am going to join them for  pancakes before we head back to Bemidji to get some things organized before I start working. 🙂 I hope everyone is doing well!

Here are a few photos that I took with  my phone of my wallets! Also, a super cool bike I found up at Hometown Hardware that I would like to get some day! 🙂 Enjoy!

Dear Saturday, May today be full of sunshine!?

So, again I have been slacking on my blog. I just have been so busy with summer classes and trying to finish up my Koi fish sculpture for the 2010 Bemidji Sculpture Walk! It happened on Thursday I finished my sculpture! What a great feeling!!!! It was amazing! Then yesterday (Friday) it was installed at its new beautiful home on the corner in front of the Wild Hare Cafe! Now, I thought on Thursday I couldn’t smile any bigger but yesterday I am pretty sure I smiled for hours and HOURS. It was a pretty amazing feeling! I have never been part of something that huge and well it was an awesome feeling and I am so thankful that I have had the privilege to do so.

Tonight there is a small gathering open to the public for meeting the artists of the sculptures that have been installed for the sculpture walk and the artists who were chosen for the Beaver project (will be installed June 6) at the Wild Rose Theater across from the Bemidji Community Art Center on Bemidji Ave/197. There will be a potluck as well! This will be from 5:30-6:45.

I also have some other art work from my lithography printmaking class but was not sure how to upload in a blog from my phone. So, eventually I will get pictures of all of my art work. Since, classes ended for the semester on May 8th I have been busy with Summer Classes. I have been enjoying bookmaking and jewelry and metals. However, I did have to learn that jewelry and metals is NOT the same or even close to welding! I had to adjust to working on my delicate things!! The summer classes are very intense and after class I spend time with my daughter so I do not get much time to work on my sewing! Once the May term is over, June term starts and I get to take screen printing! Now I am extremely excited for this considering one day I got excited by the outcome of it and ordered a bunch of supplies and have not yet used them because I am afraid of screwing up the burning of the screen process. These supplies are NOT cheap! But, I am extremely excited to learn how to burn the screens and all about the chemicals considering we did screen print shirts for the BSU Student Art Association.

We have already gotten our Art Sale for the Art Association picked out and will be on our Student Planner for an event!!! How exciting! So, this upcoming school year should be better advertising already for us compared to last semester. I do like to have an organized handle on things and too often others do are not outspoken enough to make decisions. That is ok!! We have picked out the dates and we also have an Art Show of the Art Association members in the Fall!  I am so excited for this upcoming year and it will, in fact be a very busy one for me. I will be taking like 5 studio classes and one lib ed class. I must have ambition. This is quite the load!! However, I cannot seem to get enough of art making in my life and I love the creative process so I think I will be fine. By the end of the summer I will have a basic outline of plans for the semester for each class to ensure I do not waste time trying to decide what I will create. I am hoping this will provide a smooth semester for me.

I have already been thinking of ideas for my senior show that is attentively going to be Fall semester in 2011. I know this is going to be a lot of work and I do not want to wait until last minute. So I hope I will get a good head start on this.

I will close for now. I have been jabbering your ears off! I just can’t help it! I love art. Oh, and is anyone involved in ATC? Artist Trading Cards? My bookmaking professor has mentioned these and we will be exchanging within class but I was wondering what everyone’s take on them are and if anyone knew how to get involved with an exchange!? I am thinking these will be quite fun!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! I must get off now and go finish sewing my wallets!!! Then I have to drop them off! I will post some pictures when I am finished.
